The Vision
Bytes & Backroads is more than just a road trip. It's a demonstration that with today's technology, remote work can truly be done from anywhere - even from a vintage RV traveling across the second-largest country in the world.
After 20 years in the tech industry, I'm trading office walls for winding highways, combining my passion for software development with my love for travel and exploration.
This journey will document the realities of remote work on the road, showcase the diverse beauty of Canadian landscapes and communities, and inspire others to rethink the boundaries of where and how we can work in the digital age.
The Journey
Starting in March 2026, I'll begin my adventure from my home base in London, Ontario, traveling in a vintage RV across Canada. The journey will be split into two seasons:
Season 1: March – July 2026
Starting from London, Ontario and heading east to St. John's, Newfoundland, then turning west to cross the country all the way to British Columbia and Yukon, experiencing spring and early summer across Canada.
Season 2: September – November 2026
Returning from the west through the prairies and northern Ontario, finally arriving back at home base in London, Ontario as fall colors peak.
I'll visit a new location each stop, from national parks to hidden gems, working remotely while immersing myself in local communities and natural wonders.
This route is just a suggestion! I'm open to discovering hidden gems and curious places along the way. If you have recommendations for must-visit locations, please let me know!
The Purpose
This journey aims to:
- Document life on the road for remote workers
- Share the best of Canadian culture and landscapes
- Showcase the power of technology in enabling location-independent work
- Promote resilience and adaptability in changing work environments
- Celebrate the beauty of slow travel and meaningful connections
Through blog posts, videos, and social media updates, I'll share both the highlights and challenges of this unique lifestyle, providing insights for other remote workers considering similar adventures.
